Dear All,

There is always something happening at Swatch which is one of the reasons why they are great to work with. The start of summer makes us all feel like getting outside and getting active and it is no surprise that this is when Swatch choose to launch their new Summer Sport range of watches.

At www.buyaswatch.co.uk we did our bit by training for and taking part in the Guildford Race For Life 5km run at the beginning of the month. All change again

The run in to Christmas was so busy the blog suffered, hence the lack of post. After that a prolonged lie down in a dark room was required, that's my excuse and I am sticking to it. Too many watches to choose from

People often comment that there are too many watches in the Swatch range for them to choose from. To try and help we have intoduced Select a Swatch which breaks the range down into categories (men women, plastic, metal and by colour).

All change for Autumn

It has been a busy period for Swatch resellers this month. No sooner are we back from holiday then we find ourselves rushed off our feet. New regulations from the EU mean that a lot of the Swatch watches have had to be discontinued (in the EU at least). This is because you can no longer use lead in solder to make up the joints. Therefore a lot of the watches from pre 2005 have been removed from the website greatly reducing the range. You can of course still buy them in Switzerland and then drive over the boarder into the EU!

Recently Swatch launched a special edition Unted Nations watch on the 19th June. The official press release from Swatch is reproduced below.

SWATCH marked the first session of the Human Rights Council on June 19th with the launch of the first of a series of watches, designed to stimulate continuing awareness of human rights. The blue Human Rights SWATCH watch, launched expressly for the occasion, features a large number 19 in white. This symbol refers not only to the historic birthday of the Council, but also to article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which addresses the right to freedom of opinion and expression.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution to create a Human Rights Council. The first session of the new Council took place June 19, 2006 at its headquarters in Geneva. Switzerland, which is pleased to offer the Council a home in this city, was not only an active participant in the drive to establish the Council, but applied for membership as well. At the beginning of May 2006, it was selected for a three-year term on the Human Rights Council.

Partnership between SWATCH and the United Nations

SWATCH has been linked in friendship with the UN for years. In 1992, Nicolas G. Hayek, President and Delegate of the Board of Directors of the Swatch Group, was one of the first people outside the world of politics to address the public on environmental issues in the General Assembly in New York. At the same time, SWATCH launched its “environmental protection” watch for the environmental summit in Rio. In 1995, SWATCH dedicated a model entitled Unlimited to the 50th birthday of the United Nations, as an acknowledgement of the UN’s past and future work. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of these two watches have gone to a UN foundation for environmental, educational and communications projects for youth around the world.

Human Rights SWATCH watch in UN blue

Given this background, it would seem only logical that SWATCH would want to pay its respects to the new Human Rights Council. In agreement with the UN, the company has chosen the historic day of the first session of the Council to launch both a watch dedicated to the occasion (developed in concert with the UN), and a series of watches to follow. The new Human Rights SWATCH watch is a homage to the work of the UN: its strap, case, and dial feature the familiar shade of blue associated with the UN. All other color accents are set in white, in particular that of the clearly distinguishable number 19, which is placed in its corresponding minute position. The watch evokes the birthday of the Human Rights Council, and serves as the first of a new series to be dedicated to Human Rights issues.

The 19th Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1948, addresses “the right to freedom of opinion and expression”, and the first Human Rights SWATCH watch is designed to honor this article in particular. SWATCH plans to introduce further special watches, focusing on issues covered by other preamble articles and other important human rights.

Jelly-In-Jelly has landed!

The new Swatch collection is here at last and it is fantastic. There are currently 11 watches in the range. They are all 38mm across which means they are half way between the standard plastic Gents watch and the X-large range. 5 of the watches are 'classic' designs which can be worn for everyday smart/casual wear. The remaining 6 are funky 'Jelly' style watches in black, white, orange, blue, pink and a special watch called Swatch Blue that has been designed by the Blue Man Group.

The watches are all plastic which is good news for anyone with a metal allergy, normally the battery would be stainless steel but on these watches the battery has a plastic cover.

There was a concert in Switzerland to celebrate the launch and during the concert the Blue Man Group sprayed paint, by drumming onto paint filled drums, onto a watch cut out. This will be the basis of the limited edition watch (a run of 3,333) that will be available in the Autumn.

On the 1st June 2006 Swatch will celebrate with a huge party in Switzerland the production of its 333rd millionith watch. Central to the party are the Blue Man Group who will 'manufacture' a very secret limited edition watch live on stage.

SPLASHTIVAL is the name of the spectacle in Lugano to which Swatch is inviting everyone on June 1, 2006 to celebrate its 333 millionth watch and its new product line. Since the “Swatch Jelly in Jelly” collection is (re)uniting Swatch with art, the world-famous Blue Man Group will be creating the latest watch model during their performance on stage. The SPLASHTIVAL promises Swatch and art, a huge show for the public, an act of creation, and an extraordinary live experience.

On the 1st June Swatch will have a massive party to celebrate the manufacturing of the 333rd millionith watch! There will be a launch of a special new range to mark this event but all details are top secret until 1st June. More later on this.

The first entry on my first blog. The aim of this blog is to provide a source of
reliable up to dat information on the world of Swatch watches. I own http://www.buyaswatch.co.uk which is the largest supplier of Swatch watches in the U.K. I want to provide a source of information about what is happening at Swatch, promotions limited
editions and any other nuggets that I can think up.

There are lots of people who are passionate about Swatch and some even start a website. There is a lack though of inside information and consistency. Websites come and go. As I have a financial interest in the success of Swatch and Buyaswatch I should be able to keep this blog current.

We will wait and see.
